In this two-volume expanded edition of his acclaimed 2003 classic Politics in a Half-made Society, Kirk Meighoo returns with a sweeping view of the entirety of Trinidad & Tobago’s democratic politics. The first volume goes back to the often neglected 1925 to 1956 period and ends with the portentous 18/18 parliamentary deadlock in 2001.The second volume, titled The Hostile Quarter Century, picks up from that crisis through the various changes in administration culminating in the return to power of the United National Congress (UNC) Party  in 2025.

Taken together, these two volumes -written twenty-five years apart – provide a comprehensive 100-year integrated analysis of the politics of Trinidad and Tobago. This long-term view of politics in the 21^st century is particularly important because it has transformed into a significantly new mode which has deeply affected the life and development of the country but has not been sufficiently analysed, reflected upon, digested and processed.

Kirk Meighoo received his PhD from the University of Hull, UK and is a former lecturer in politics at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine. He has served as political commentator and contributed analyses for the Trinidad Guardian newspaper as well as acting as Editor for the Trinidad & Tobago Review. Since 2021 he has served as the Public Relations Officer of the of the ruling United National Congress (UNC) Party of Trinidad and Tobago.
