The Publishing Process

Once you have gone through the proposal submission process and your manuscript has been accepted for publication, you will need to submit the final Word files to our editor. (You should of course retain a copy of your manuscript files for your records.)

The process from MANUSCRIPT to BOOK may take anywhere between six and twelve months and involves several stages:

  • Copy-editing (4-8 weeks)
  • Author responses to editorial queries and suggestions (2-4 weeks)
  • Editorial mark-up for design and layout (1-2 weeks)
  • Design and layout: heads, subheads, fonts, dimensions etc. (2-4 weeks)
  • Format and Output/Typesetting (4-6 weeks)
  • Proofreading – by Author and freelance proofreader/in-house (2-3 weeks)
  • Cover Design – done while proofreading is taking place. Please let us know if you have nay images or you’d like to use or specific cover ideas.
  • Typesetting corrections (1-2 weeks)
  • Checking final pages by copy-editor (1-2 weeks)
  • Final manuscript to Author for Indexing (1-2 weeks)
  • Ready for Press (1 week)
  • Printing and Binding (4-6 weeks)
  • Shipping to Bookstores (3-4 weeks)

Publish A Book

The process of publishing a book requires several stages, beginning with a manuscript review. At this time Ian Randle Publishers does not accept unsolicited manuscripts. Instead, we ask our prospective authors and those wishing to use our publishing services, to complete the Author Questionnaire below and one our representatives will contact you.

NOTE: We receive many submissions on a daily basis. So, please be patient in awaiting our response.

Author Questionnaire

Please answer the following questions with accuracy and care. The information you provide will be used to prepare copyright forms and other documents necessary for publication. Your responses also provide the basic information for marketing activities.

Author Questionnaire

1. Author(s)/Editor(s) full name in the order that they appear on the title page [and for compilations, the complete name and full mailing addresses of all the contributors], current affiliations, full mailing address, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers.

2. Name, address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address, if applicable, of one person to whom copies of reviews and other marketing correspondence should be directed.

3. Citizenship and birth date (required for copyright purposes) for all authors or editors named.

4. Biographical note: Please write approximately 50-80 words ‘About the Author’. A copy of your current curriculum vitae would also be helpful. Please send us information for all authors/editors.

5. If you know of similar or competing books, please give the author, title, publisher (if known) as well as the publication date.

6. What is unique about your book? Tell us what features your book has that others do not.

7. List specific features of your project (for example, photographs, maps, charts, chronologies and bibliography).

8. If you were writing a brief review (no more than two sentences) of your project, what would you say?

9. Please write a longer review (one paragraph) of your project.

10. Provide the names, addresses and telephone numbers of four persons who might advance comments for your project.

11. Have you recently been interviewed in print, radio or television? If so, by whom?

12. If your book is a suitable text for the classroom, list the types of courses for which it could be used and the names and addresses of colleagues who are likely to adopt your book.

13. Provide the name of any professional societies or organizations of which you are a member. Give names and addresses if available.

14. Please list the names and addresses of journals that are likely to carry a review of your book. Please include the name of the book review editor if you know it.

15. Please attach the name(s), address(es) and phone/fax number(s) of your university publicity contact.
