Description
Enid Donaldson was for many years Jamaica’s best-known cook through her live television demonstrations, her weekly food columns in the Gleaner newspaper and her motherly presence as caterer at numerous public and private functions. As a demonstrator for the Jamaica Tourist Board, she was also Jamaica’s ‘food ambassador at large,’ having done numerous presentations at food shows and trade expos internationally.
The Real Taste of Jamaica, arguably the best-selling Jamaican cookbook from the island with over 150,000 copies sold worldwide, takes food lovers and cooks the world over into Jamaican homes, kitchens and restaurants to sample the full range of native cuisine prepared by local housewives, cooks, restaurateurs and roadside ‘jerkies.’
In this new edition, with updated photography and imagery, the traditional dishes are presented with flair and imagination, delicately spiced and flavoured with curry, scotch bonnet peppers, jerk sauce, pimento, nutmeg, rum, and a dash of typical Jamaican humour. ‘Stamp and Go,’ ‘Dip and Fall Back,’ ‘Mannish Water,’ and ‘Matrimony’ conjure up images that do not disappoint when tasted.
